On February 29, 2012, 5 middle school students appeared before Juvenile Court Judge Doug Flanagan to face charges of simple battery stemming from something that has become known as the “Charlie Rape Gang.” Read the article from the Augusta Chronicle HERE.

Many thanks to the folks at Redeemer Presbyterian Church for their efforts in advance of the Teenage Years 101 presentation on November 1 and November 3, 2010. They have been working very hard to accommodate as many attendees as possible. Early reports suggest there will be large crowds at each event. There is no need to register or reserve any type of space–just come as you are!

Beer Pong

Some parents have asked, “what is beer pong?” The response is directly from Wikipedia. Their definition is, “Beer Pong, also known as Beirut, is a drinking game in which players throw a ping-pong ball across a table with the intent of landing the ball in a cup of beer/water on the other end. The game typically consists of two two-to-four-player teams and multiple cups set up on each side set up in triangle formation. There are no official rules, so rules may vary widely, though usually there are six or ten plastic cups arranged in a triangle on each side.

The order of play varies—both players on one team shoot followed by both players on the other team, or players on opposite teams can alternate back and forth.”

For some of you in my generation, it is much like the old game of quarters. It is extremely popular. The goal is to consume a bunch of beer in a short amount of time.

NEW TEEN 101 SESSION

Many people have asked when we will have another public session of Teenage Years 101. With the assistance of Redeemer Presbyterian Church, we have scheduled another punlic session for November, 2010. On Monday, November 1, 2010, an ADULT session will be held, beginning at 7:00 pm. On Wednesday, November 3, 2010, a TEEN session will be conducted at Redeemer Presbyterian Church, also beginning at 7:00 pm. The directions to Redeemer Presbyterian Church will be added to this site in the near future.

It is worth noting that we are in the process of updating the program and changing some of the content to ensure that the program remains relevant and current. Please tell your friends and neighbors that we are beginning our FIFTH YEAR of TY101 and are committed to our parents and teens to ensure that the program is informative, fun and highly relevant. Please join us on November 1 and 3 for this great event. Many thanks to Redeemer for their cooperation and willingness to host the event.

Teenage Years-Advanced Studies (College Style)

On August 19, 2010, we had the opportunity to present the TY101 message to a college audience for the first time. We were able to change our message to address the needs and concerns of the average college student. The audience was Freshmen, Athletes and members of the Greek family at Augusta State University. It has always been our hope to expand the scope of our message to include the college-aged students because so many believe (incorrectly) that the issues addressed in TY101 are limited to high school students. Many college students enter college still in their teenage years, at least in the eyes of the law.

I will leave it to others to determine whether the message was well received but the feedback from the students was very positive. Thanks to WRDW for choosing to cover the event in their evening newscast. The more we talk about the issues presented in these discussions, the better prepared we will all be for life.
