Information about links

From time to time, we will post links to web sites that discuss issues that are related to TY101 issues.  Please do not assume that these links are endorsed or supported by TY101.  Such sites may contain facts that are incorrect or support “causes” that we do not support.  Parents are the best filters of information and whether you find such information to be reliable is a decision that YOU must make.

Marijuana-Gateway drug

I know that you have heard the argument that alcohol is statistically more dangerous that weed.  I also know that if you look on the Internet, you can find plenty of statistics that support that argument.  When I began this program, I found those statistics myself.  As a parent, you could just rely upon the “one is illegal and one is not” argument but that is not particularly persuasive with teens.  Marijuana is frequently referred to as a gateway drug.  To explain, very few folks who become involved with heroin start their drug usage with a needle in their arm.  They usually start with using marijuana and then, when that high is not satisfying, they move up the chain–but marijuana is the gateway to more serious drug usage.
